Welcome
and Mabuhay!
Welcome to
the website of the Carillon Tower – www.upcarillon.org
-- an initiative of the Carillon Restoration Project of the
U.P. Alumni Association (UPAA). The website presents the project,
its goals and objectives, its main activities such as resource
mobilization and other information aimed at saving, restoring
and preserving the Carillon Tower. It outlines essential information
on the history of the Carillon Tower, the U.P. alumni spirit
behind it, its main features, some historical details and the
kind of music that it plays. Yet, sadly, it has now been rendered
silent for years due to the ravages of time, disrepair and
neglect.
The website provides a brief description of the Tower’s
state of condition; but, more than that, it points to what
need to be done, the repairs and the renovations envisaged
and the plans for its upkeep and maintenance as well as the
development of new talents. It also sketches a vision of the
Carillon Tower’s surrounding areas, to be called Carillon
Plaza, where concerts could be held and where musical artists
and performers would connect with audience and listeners.
The UPAA would like to see that these are realized by mid-2008
in time for the Centennial Celebrations of the University
of the Philippines. But these would only be possible with
your help. Thus, the UPAA calls on all U.P. alumni -- and
others as well -- whether or not they are in the Philippines,
in the United States, in Europe, in Asia and Africa and
the rest of the world to join us in this collective effort
to save and restore the Carillon Tower. The
website’s donation page shows you how you can
make a difference in this major endeavor.
Thank you and Mabuhay! |
